Plans I Have Ruined (+8)

Hey, hey. I have started too many blogs to admit to on a "first date." Instead of the obligatory name, age and manifesto, enjoy a comprehensive list of Things I Have Not Done Well This Semester and a sample of my bucket list.

Things I Have Not Done Well This Semester ( a rolling counter):

One: Have extensive plan in place. Preferably for between two and eight years of your life. Alterations to the plan can be made at will. A sense of direction is mandatory. Late in you senior year of college, realize that your plans will make you at best morose and unhappy. Eliminate all of them. Do not replace the space in your suture with anything valuable.

Two: Decide to travel abroad after graduation. Realize this trip will cost more than your car. Contemplate which of your organs is truly vital to your continued longevity. Sigh and begin scholarship applications.

Three: Reaffirm your desire to write a novel in November. Realize how precious your time will be. Weep.

Four: Write the introduction to your personal blog while your room needs cleaning and your homework needs doing. Feel guilty. Continue undaunted.

  My (itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny) Bucket List Sample:

1. Do yoga. It will make you happier and more relaxed.
2. Read books you like. You have to do a lot of reading for your major. Make sure you read a few ("non-academic") books, just for you.
3. Look for jobs you want to do, at least for a little while.
4. Write. I know it's hard and not always fun, but it will get easier and the stories will improve. I promise.
5. Make sure the things you eat and drink are necessary and good for your body. You get out of life no more than you put in.
6. Work out when you're bored. Not only will you make better choices (wow! look at all the things I suddenly have to do) but your body will thank you.
7. Don't complain (even mentally) when someone asks you to do them a favor or volunteer your time. We both know you would only be on Tumblr anyway, so don't pretend like it's an imposition to help others.
8. Sleep. Rest is more important than anything you would have stayed up to do. (obviously there are some exceptions).

Be happy. Be involved. Be daring. You only have one life. Drink deeply and be satisfied.
